Driving Progress: Custom Pile Cushions for
Massive Bridge Projects

The Problem

A variety of bridge-building contractors across the Southeast needed heavy-duty, DOTD-compliant pile cushions for concrete pile driving—ranging from small bayou crossings to major interstate expansions. Each project required specific sizes, configurations, and designs to meet bid specs and structural demands.

We engineered and manufactured custom pile cushions in a wide range of sizes—from 14”x14” to an impressive 52” donut-shaped cushion, 12 inches thick and weighing 360 pounds each. These were constructed from laminated plywood sections, precisely cut into quarters to reduce waste and lower material costs. Some square plywood cushions featured clipped corners for smoother insertion into pile-driving helmets. Other designs included oak timbered core cushions with plywood caps to tie the Timbers together. Every cushion met the stringent requirements outlined in DOTD bid packages and performed under extreme jobsite demands.

The Client

Our pile cushions have been trusted by major highway and foundation contractors in Louisiana, South Carolina, and Florida—including projects for NASA and I-12 bridge expansions. Every project gave us a chance to combine creativity, faith, and hard work to meet the challenges of modern infrastructure.
